ITCN charges Bacen and ANPD for frequent leaks of Pix keys

The Institute for Technology and Cash Cycle Strategies (ITCN) sent a letter to Central Bank Governor Roberto Campos Neto and National Data Protection Authority Waldemar Gonçalves Ortunho Júnior asking about the frequent leaks of Pix keys.

In the filing, ITCN asked for the launch of administrative proceedings to investigate the breach and for Bacen to assess its responsibilities under the General Data Protection Act regarding the control and management of personal data in the instant payments ecosystem.

The entity requested special attention to the data breaches related to Banese and Acesso. ITCN legal Chinese Overseas America Number Data counsel Mariana Chaimovich commented: "Bacen is required to implement impartial and independent control mechanisms over the processing of personal data in the Pix arrangement and related transactions, as well as active and effective governance."

On January 25, Procon-SP also asked the central bank to clarify the leak of more than 160,000 Pix keys held by the company Acesso Soluções de Ação. The leak was revealed in a public statement posted on the BC website on the 21st of the same month.



Lawyers who spoke to ConJur at the time said Bacen's assertion that the data was insensitive "bordered on malice." With this information, fraudsters can try to extract more data and deceive users into making loans and withdrawals. The data was leaked between December 4 and 5 last year and is the responsibility of Acesso. Sergipe National Bank also recorded a breach of 395,000 Pix keys in September.
